Superior preparation for the Progymnasium
The bilingual Progymnasium is aimed at students with very good knowledge of both German and English who have no difficulty following lessons in either language at native-speaker level. They have set themselves the goal of transferring to the upper school of the Gymnasium after the 2nd class and want to prepare themselves by working at a progymnasial level.
The Progymnasium is structured like a Gymnasium and prepares students for the final four years of the Gymnasium (upper school of the Gymnasium). The programme allows a smooth transfer to the upper school of the Gymnasium after the 2nd class. In contrast to the bilingual lower school of the Gymnasium, Latin is not taught. This means that there are more lessons in German, French and Mathematics.
Special subject teachers teach in accordance with the immersion principle. Lessons are taught almost entirely by Gymnasium teachers. Both the English and German parts of the programme are taught by mother-tongue teachers.

Transfer to the Upper School of our Gymnasium
In the course of the 2nd class, students are able to qualify for transfer to the upper school of the Gymnasium of Freies Gymnasium Zürich based on their performance, without having to pass an entrance examination.
The bilingual programme is concluded with the Swiss Bilingual Matura which qualifies students for admission to Swiss and international universities.
Admission to our bilingual Progymnasium from other schools
Freies Gymnasium Zürich has an agreement on assessment for admission with the following bilingual primary schools. Students are admitted to Freies Gymnasium Zürich without taking the entrance examination on the recommendation of the schools:

- SIS (primary school)

- have the recommendation of their primary school for the Swiss Secondary level A or equivalent
- achieved at least a 4.75 average in their last report in their first language (English or German) as well as in Mathematics (including Geometry)
