Preparation for the Gymnasium
Our monolingual Progymnasium has much in common with the lower school of the Gymnasium, although Latin is not taught. Various factors distinguish it from the regular Swiss Secondary A School. Our Progymnasium incorporates the following distinctive features:
- special subject teacher system
- most teachers are Gymnasium teachers
- teaching material similar to that of lower school of the Gymnasium
- same learning goals as lower school of the Gymnasium
- same number of lessons per week as lower school of the Gymnasium
Differences to the lower school of the Gymnasium
The students of the monolingual Progymnasium have set themselves the goal of transferring to the upper school of the Gymnasium. Instead of Latin, students have more lessons in Mathematics, German and French. Handicrfts are also on the timetable.
Transfer to the upper school of the Gymnasium
In the course of the 2nd or 3rd class of the Progymnasium, students can qualify for transfer to the upper school of the Gymnasium based on their performance in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and without needing to take an entrance examination.
The education in the Gymnasium is concluded with the state-recognised Matura which qualifies students for admission to all universities.
Admission to our Progymnasium from other schools
Applicants need to have qualified for transfer to the Swiss Secondary A level or equivalent. They are eligible to take the entrance examination if they have a minimum average of 4.75 in German and Mathematics in the first term. Parents and prospective pupils take part in an admission interview with school management as part of the admission process.
