What makes Freies Gymnasium Zürich so distinctive?
Freies Gymnasium Zürich is a liberal and open-minded school in the Christian-humanistic education tradition. It was founded as a private school in 1888.
The education programmes offered by Freies Gymnasium Zürich comprise two preparatory classes, a monolingual and a bilingual Secondary A level department, the monolingual and bilingual Progymnasium for grades 7 and 8, as well as a monolingual and a bilingual lower school and upper school of the Gymnasium with state-recognised House Matura.
In the Gymnasium, students can choose from four study profiles: Classics, Modern Languages, Mathematics - Natural Sciences with two core subject directions, and Economics and Law.
The Swiss Matura regulations (MAR) govern the Gymnasium programmes; the preparatory classes and the Progymnasium are subject to the Curriculum of the Canton of Zurich.
The school is run on non-profit making, private enterprise principles. The governing body is a school association; its highest executive body is the Board of Governors.
The school is managed by the Principal and the Vice Principals. The class teachers and the special subject teachers fulfil management duties assigned to them in the classes.
A cooperative management style ensures that school policies receive solid support from students, parents and school staff.
