Penpal Project with Bamenda, Cameroon

This project was started in 2012 with the support of ACTWID Switzerland. The aim is a cultural exchange between our students and a group of children there. Actwid supports the community by providing information on health and environmental issues and also offers assistance to children who have suffered loss in the family. The children our students communicate with are aged 10 – 16.

Over the years, with funds raised from our annual bake sale, we have been able to support Actwid in various ways; buying secondhand computers, providing computer training, subsidizing the purchase of a secondhand people carrier to enable the organisation to travel further in order to continue their work in the surrounding villages.

Our focus, however, is on supporting the children. In the past, we sent books and school materials to Cameroon, but soon realized our funds could buy more there, as shipping to Cameroon is extremely expensive. With the present Covid situation, our donation will be used for lunches, school materials and mentorship for the students at the Actwid Centre, as schools are still closed.

We thank you all for your continued support, our small efforts mean so much to them.
