On the 8th, November 2023 my class had the pleasure of visiting a Senior Citizens Center in Zürich, more specifically, Mrs Jeanette Bider.
My first impression of her was that she is a sweet, little, old English lady, welcoming and genuinely interested in talking to us and listening to what we had to say. Leading up to our visit, we had finished reading “Good Night Mr. Tom”, a novel set in World War II focused on a boy called William.
Hearing Mrs Bider talk about her childhood experiences and being able to open up to us, was so much more inspiring than I thought it would be. It was impressive, this little lady, far from home, is still doing big, brave things, even if it might not seem so.
Her experiences helped shine a light on what it was like living in her time and make the book seem so much more real.
